Start by paying attention to the cakes you naturally gravitate towards on Instagram and Pinterest. Which ones make you swoon and instantly hit the save button and share them with your fiancé for their opinion?
This will start to give you an idea of what you are subconsciously leaning towards. Are they colourful and bold, do they have lots of floral decorations or are they minimalist and chic?
Once you can see a pattern of what vibe and style you love, it makes it easier to connect with a cake designer that specialises in this style!

Want to make sure all your guests enjoy a piece of your wedding cake?
Of course you do! Making sure you have the right cake size and enough portions is key to keeping everyone happy. To help you out, here are some quick calculations for my most popular wedding cake sizes. Each serving is based on a 1" x 1" x 5" portion:
- 5" round cake - 18 portions
- 7" round cake - 35 portions
- 9" round cake - 60 servings
My standard depth of cake is 5” which I have found over the years makes for the perfect size if you are having multiple tiered cakes and once cut into 1” X 1” portions if just the right amount to serve to your guests!
But worry not! When we discuss your cake size and guest count, I`ll ensure there`s plenty for everyone—and maybe even some leftovers for you to enjoy after your big day. 🍰

Outside of my cake studio, I get up to a lot. That`s probably why my diary is always full!
This month has been particularly busy with weddings but amongst baking and delivering wedding cakes I managed to enjoy a day at Royal Ascot with my sister Lorraine and a catch up with the family as we have a new little one that has just been born!
But the news I have been waiting to share with you is that my daughter got engaged whilst on holiday in Positano! The plans for their wedding next year is already underway as we viewed a gorgeous venue on Saturday together 🤍
Being based in Surrey, I`m lucky enough to have London`s iconic landmarks and charming hotels just a stone`s throw away. I love catching up with friends over coffee or indulging in a luxurious afternoon tea before taking in a show or two. This time, I was lucky enough to see Mean Girls at The Savoy Theatre, and let me tell you, it was absolutely fabulous!

Vision vs Reality
If you know me or have ever chatted with me at an open day or wedding fayre - you might be able to get the sense that I am always creating 💫
Whether I am gathering inspiration from a wedding venue or the calligraphy on a wedding invitation - my mind is always seeing designs and patterns everywhere I go!
And this was true when I was chatting to the lovely Harriet Christelow, I mentioned that her posts showing her creating lace on her new sewing machine had my brain whirring with cake designs. The intricate bespoke lace designs on her gowns are absolutely exquisite and I could not help but start designing an elegant cake adorned with lace detailing in my head!
This is how this beautiful wedding cake design came to be - from my vision to a stunning reality.

Creating a luxury wedding cake and dessert table for Adam & Sarah at The Savoy was an absolute delight!
This detail-oriented couple wanted elegance and sophistication, and I was determined to deliver just that.
Their dessert table featured two macaron towers, individual mini iced cakes, meringue kisses, decorated biscuits, cake pops, and more—all beautifully designed to match their duck-egg blue, white and gold-accented reception decor.
It was an absolute hit with their guests and a joy to design and create such a wide variety of handmade treats!

Sentimental and Personalised Cake Designs
I had the absolute pleasure of working with Georgina and Matt on creating a very special and sentimental wedding cake.
My couple chose to have a replica of Georgina`s grandparents` 1950s wedding cake, just like her parents had, right down to every detail and pipework design.
We decided to add heart shapes into the wedding collar design which included the couple`s initials so their wedding cake was personal to them.
This was an adventure and allowed me to create a wedding cake that is not my usual style but was an absolute joy to create for Georgina and Matt.
This special wedding cake was my couple`s beautiful way of including Georgina`s parents and grandparents on their big day.

Hi, I`m Lisa, the founder, CEO, lead designer and baker here at Wedding Cakes By Lisa.
I`ve been a cake maker for over 20 years and it is my main passion in life, however, you can still find me in London, visiting the latest exhibitions, especially making use of my V&A membership, horse racing, who doesn`t love to dress up and having family time on my weekends when I am not delivering or setting up wedding cakes!

As someone who has designed wedding cakes for over a decade, I have had the chance to visit many different wedding venues. Each space is unique and offers various opportunities for displaying your wedding cake 🤍
Here are my top tips for displaying your cake:
- Choose a location that has enough space to accommodate your cake, do not have it squashed in the corner!
- If possible, opt for a location with natural light to ensure beautiful photos of your cake.
- Consider whether you want a cake stand or not, and how the colour and design of the cake stand will match the aesthetics of your venue.
- Ensure that there is enough space around your cake to accommodate any floral arrangements or other decorations you may wish to add.
- Decide where you will be standing around your cake table for photos so your guests can see you!
I understand each venue is unique, so I make a venue visit before your big day so I can recommend the best area for your wedding cake. This way you will have the absolute best experience on your wedding day 🤍
