Librarian's Corner

Renovation Time!
Beginning Monday, October 14th the Library will be getting new floors and a fresh coat of paint! The renovations are expected to take approximately 2 weeks. What does that mean for you, our patrons? ● The Library building, including our meeting rooms, will be closed to the public from October 14 through at least October 26.
● No items will be due during the time we are closed. We ask that you hold on to your library materials until we reopen. The Harwinton Library does not charge late fines!
● No Library cards will expire while we are closed. We will extend through the end of November any accounts due to expire, so you have time to stop in and renew.
● No Storytimes. We will be giving out Take Home Storytime kits for you to enjoy at home while we are closed. Our regular Storytime schedule will resume once we reopen.
● No Book Donations – we need all of our space to store the collection! We will resume taking book donations once the building reopens.
● As of October 1, we will stop taking Interlibrary Loan requests. Interlibrary Loan will resume once the building reopens.
● The Library’s digital collections will remain available for borrowing. Check out all of the eBooks, audiobooks, movies, magazines & more available on OverDrive, Hoopla, Palace and Tumblebooks.
● Staff will be available via email throughout the renovation.

Make sure to visit us in early October to load up on plenty of books, puzzles, DVDS, games and goodies to keep you entertained while the building is unavailable. We are sorry for the interruption to library services, but we cannot wait to welcome you into a refreshed and updated Library!

Cloud Cuckoo Land
by Anthony Doerr

Book Cover

When everything is lost, it’s our stories that survive. How do we weather the end of things? Cloud Cuckoo Land brings together a cast of dreamers and outsiders from past, present and future to offer a vision of survival against all odds. This story of 3 people bound together by a single ancient text forms a tapestry of solace, resilience and a celebration of storytelling itself.

Running with Sherman
by Christopher McDougall

Book Cover

When Chris McDougall agreed to take in a donkey from an animal hoarder, Sherman was in such bad shape he could barely move. Chris decided to undertake a radical rehabilitation program designed not only to heal Sherman’s body but to heal his mind as well. It turns out the best way to soothe a donkey is to give it a job, and so Chris decided to teach Sherman how to run.
